About the group
Don’t Burn Our Future is a sub-group of Low Carbon Kāpiti that formed to oppose the New Zealand government’s proposed liquid biofuels obligation in 2022. You can find out more about our reasons for opposition on the campaign page, but in short, plans and ambitions for the use of liquid biofuels held by governments and airlines (among others) far exceed the amount that can be sustainably produced, and use of unsustainable biofuels is a disaster for people and planet. That is why even though the NZ government dropped the plans for the obligation to blend liquid biofuels in petrol and diesel in February 2023, this group continues to operate and draw attention to the mismatch between these aspirations for biofuels (and other alternate fuels like hydrogen and ‘power to liquid’) and the realities.
