How we started
Foundations
“I could see that there were a lot of passionate people who care about the environment and the community — but they were not working together, and they were not asking the right questions.”
— Jake Roos, chair, 2017-26
Jake Roos and a number of concerned Kāpiti residents founded Low Carbon Kāpiti. After years working with local government, we recognised that Council and other bodies ares far more responsive to organised community groups than to individuals.
In June 2017, the society was incorporated. We’ve been holding decision-makers in business, local and central government to account ever since.
Our purposes
What we exist to do
01
Connect with Kāpiti residents
Amplify the voice of local people who are concerned about emission reduction, climate change and affordable energy.
02
Lobby decision-makers
Make robust submissions for future positive plans and decision-making Press local politicians, MPs, and authorities to act
03
Take local initiatives
Run or support projects that reduce emissions, build resilience, or raise awareness right in Kāpiti and across Aotearoa.
04
Work in partnership
Collaborate with Tāngata Whenua and other groups who share our goals.
Add your name to Kāpiti’s climate voice.
You’ll be helping us show that this community cares and we can keep you in touch with what is happening and how you can help.
