Lego® Workshops info

The workshops

The purpose of the workshops is to co-ordinate, educate, upskill and inspire the builders.

There will be Lego bricks at the workshops for free play.

We will take photos and video (with your permission) to record the creative process and promote the project. We will also get photos and descriptions of completed models, which will be used for posters that will be used to explain the completed display.

Attendance at least one workshop is recommended.

Children 8 and under must be accompanied by a guardian

Location:

Smarter Building Centre, 45B Te Roto Drive, beside Mico Plumbing.

Parking available outside or at Mico Plumbing, which will be closed.

Time:

Saturdays, 2:45 for a 3:00pm start, finish at 4:00pm

Dates:

24-2 Workshop 1 –meet everyone, explain what we’re building and why, get ideas, discuss the draft layout plan. (Read the report about this workshop here).

3-3 Workshop 2 – allocate spaces, discuss how things will fit together, building techniques and tips. (Read the workshop report here).

10-3 Workshop 3 – allocate spaces and hand out bricks (read the workshop report here).

17-3 Workshop 4 – allocate spaces and hand out bricks, show and tell of models (brought from home), give feedback. (Read the workshop report here)

24-3 Workshop 5 – show and tell, trouble-shoot, receive completed models if unable to come to assembly on the 29th. (Read the workshop report here)

Assembly

The completed display will be brought together 3-7pm at Coastlands Mall near the South Entrance on Thursday 29 March. Builders will bring their models and be photographed with them. These photographs will be put up on boards alongside the display so people can see who built what.

  • Come to Coastlands Mall, Outside Radius Pharmacy and Paper Plus (South Entrance)
  • Bring your model in a labelled box with lid
  • 3:30 – 4:30pm: models near the back
  • 4:30 – 6:00pm: models near the front
  • Check in
  • Fill in a card, get your picture taken with model (or just the model)

Prizes

There will be prizes of Lego sets for the best models and a prize draw. The prizegiving ceremony will be during the day on Thursday 19 April. More details to come.

Disassembly

This will happen on the 22 of April. Models will be able to be collected following this. Details TBC.
